Puerto Rico's Ponce Carnival Month

Wow, it's a huge month to be in Puerto Rico! The Ponce Carnival is just around the corner. So is the Casals Festival. Right there are two of the biggest events of the year in Puerto Rico, one a display of revelry to rival New Orleans, the other one of the most important and longest-running classical music festivals in the Caribbean. (And by the way, it's not the only classical concert taking place on the island.)

Beyond those marquee events, you have a variety of sporting competitions that bring surfers, sailors and free-divers to the island. And of course, Valentine's Day will bring a Puerto Rican cupid to the island, along with plenty of special menus at local restaurants (check my blog for more as the big day gets closer).

Cupid isn't the only tourist in February. Migrating humpback whales come calling off the western shores of Puerto Rico, passing so close you can often see them from the shore at lighthouse park in Rincón. So it's a full month of concerts, festivals and activities all around the island. In other words, a fine time to be in Puerto Rico!
